Frugal Friday with The Big Onion in the Big Apple

No, this is not a Frugal Friday about fruits and vegetables.  It’s just that everything in New York is big, if you haven’t guessed that already.  Seth Kamil is the host of Big Onion walking tours in New York and the man knows his stuff.  From the most bizarre trivia about Brooklyn’s Coney Island to the smallest historical fact about Central Park.

The walking tours are only $15 and last about two hours.  If you pre-pay for five you get the sixth one free and there’s a lot to see in and around Manhattan; afterall, there are five boroughs!

There are tours to satisfy every interest:  Historical Harlem, Chinatown, Gay & Lesbian History, The Gangs of New York and many more.  Oh, yeah, there’s even a Multi-Ethnic Eating Tour.  Yum!  The eating tour is the only one which requires reservations; the rest are just show up and go!

I’m always looking for an affordable way to travel and experience different cultures, even if it’s a local culture like NYC. I’ve recently taken some great trips and they’ve really opened my eyes.

Thanks for stopping by. As a native New Yorker, I am always discovering new things and this seemed like a fun one.

This is why I love NYC. You don’t necessarily have to spend a lot of money to have a good time. There are so many different events to attend. If you stay in Greenwich Village, you can spend a whole day walking in and out of all the cute little shops.
